Abstract
The Employee moonlighting refers to the practice of an employee holding a secondary job, often outside their primary employment, without the employer’s knowledge or approval. While moonlighting can provide financial benefits for individuals, it raises several concerns for employers, including reduced productivity, conflicts of interest, and security risks. The practice of moonlighting has gained significant attention in recent years, especially with the rise of the gig economy and remote work, where the boundaries between personal and professional life have become increasingly blurred. In some industries, such as technology, media, and consulting, employees are increasingly engaging in freelance work or starting their own businesses alongside their regular employment. This chapter explores the concept of employee moonlighting, discussing the motivations behind the practice, the ethical and legal implications, and the potential benefits and risks for both employees and employers. It also delves into the policies that companies can adopt to manage and address moonlighting, balancing the rights of employees with the interests of the organization. As the nature of work continues to evolve, understanding employee moonlighting becomes crucial for organizations to maintain healthy work environments and safeguard their interests.
