Abstract

Leaders are important to growth and innovation. To explore the said narrative, we investigate how poor leadership can impact corporate innovation. Particularly, we conduct this study in the context of Pakistan. In view of this, data is gathered from WBES (World Bank Enterprise Survey). This survey was conducted in 2022 and covers 1300 firms across different industries in Pakistan. The regression estimates verify that poor and ineffective leaders harm corporate innovation. Policy implications highlight the importance of leadership development programs, creating a culture of innovation, accountability mechanisms and regulatory frameworks to counteract the detrimental effect of poor leadership on innovation.
