Abstract

Nanotechnology is arguably one of the most transformative scientific developments of the twenty-first century. Nanotechnology is defined as the design, manipulation, and application of matters at a scale of 1 to 100 nanometers in size. It is at this scale of matter manipulation and application that matters are found to have unique physical, chemical, optical, magnetic, and electrical properties different from those of bulk materials. These unique properties are found to be caused by the surface-volume ratio of the materials and the quantum effects that influence the behavior of matters at this very minute scale.
