Abstract

Organizations have changed significantly as a result of the surge in remote work and the impact on how employees work, interact and connect with their work. This research paper explores the opportunities, challenges, and organizational factors that affect employee productivity and engagement in remote work culture and examines how it impacts employee productivity and engagement. This study uses a mixed-method research approach, combining structured questions in employee questionnaires with semi-structured interviews of employees and organization managers in different sectors in order to obtain qualitative insights. These results suggest that the remote working culture is definitely having a significant impact on both productivity and engagement, however, this impact is dependent on the level of support provided by an organization, the technological infrastructure provided, the communication process used, the leadership used and the ability to maintain work-life balance. Having flexible work options and access to reliable digital collaboration tools and good management support can lead to higher employee motivation, efficiency and job satisfaction, while poor communication, social isolation and lack of boundaries between work and personal life can be linked to lower employee engagement and increased employee stress. In addition, employee engagement is shaped by various experiences in the different types of work environments, and while some employees like the flexibility and autonomy provided by remote working, others may feel concerns about teamwork, career development, and connectedness with the organization. This study shows that remote working culture, productivity and employee engagement are a complex mix and that the challenge of crafting a sustainable remote working policy is a balance between the needs of the employee and the goals of the organization. This research helps build the evidence base for remote work and provides evidence-based recommendations to help create resilient, productive, and highly engaged workplaces in today’s digital economy.
