Abstract
The increasing pace of information technology has shifted the computing paradigm—cloud computing has become an important infrastructure and edge intelligence is the next generation of distributed computing. This research paper focuses on the evolution from cloud based systems to edge intelligence, covering technological advances, applications, advantages and disadvantages. These paradigms are all evolving because they are increasingly being required to process huge amounts of data, in a more adaptive, efficient and intelligent environment. The study adopts a mixed-method that involves analysing the existing research, technology trends and performance insights. The report finds that although edge intelligence has a number of advantages, such as scalability, storage and powerful processing power, the growing demand for real-time processing, low latency and data privacy has increased the proliferation of edge intelligence. These advances have spurred industries to investigate more decentralized computing solutions which deliver top performance and boost user experience. An edge-based system can help to process data at or near the source of its creation, which is important for applications like smart cities, industrial automation, IoT, and healthcare monitoring, and can help speed up decision-making. But some of the issues such as security threats, computation power and integration complexities are still very significant concerns. To overcome these limitations, more sophisticated security architectures, better management of resources, and integration of cloud and edge data centers are needed. The paper further emphasizes the significance of using hybrid cloud-edge architectures and AI-powered solutions for creating efficient, scalable, and intelligent IT infrastructures. The study helps in understanding emerging computing paradigms and gives insights to organisations and researchers on the path towards sustainable digital transformation. It also highlights the significance of new technologies and the way they will shape the future digital ecosystems with better connectivity, automation, and intelligent decision-making.
