Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer an external support system in education. It has become part of how learners develop speaking skills, interact, and express meaning in English. Traditionally, speaking ability developed through classroom interaction, peer engagement, and teacher feedback. Today, learners are increasingly engaging with AI-based systems that provide immediate responses, corrective feedback, and simulated communication environments. This chapter examines how AI is reshaping English language speaking by expanding the traditional understanding of communicative competence. It introduces the transition from the LSRW (Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing) model to an expanded LSRWP framework, where pronunciation and performance are treated as central components rather than secondary skills. The discussion also situates these changes within the idea of agentic AI leadership, which emphasizes collaboration between human learners and intelligent systems. Drawing on recent research, the chapter highlights both the opportunities and challenges of AI integration. It identifies emerging skill sets such as digital prosody, AI-assisted communication strategies, and meta-cognitive awareness. The chapter concludes by proposing that the future of English speaking lies not in replacing human interaction, but in strengthening it through meaningful human-AI collaboration.
