Abstract
In the contemporary business environment, organisations are increasingly operating under conditions of uncertainty, rapid technological advancement, and continuous market transformation. Such changes have significantly altered managerial expectations, encouraging employers to prioritize agile competencies while recruiting and developing leaders. Agile managerial competencies refer to the combination of knowledge, behavioural capabilities, leadership qualities, and adaptive skills that allow managers to respond effectively to dynamic organizational situations. This chapter explores the major agile competencies currently expected by employers across multiple industries and examines their role in organisational effectiveness and long-term sustainability. The discussion is based on insights obtained from recent academic studies, industry reports, and organizational practices related to agile leadership and workforce agility. The chapter categorizes agile managerial competencies into six major dimensions: technical competency, interpersonal and leadership capability, organizational and systemic understanding, strategic competency, digital and technological literacy, and adaptive learning capability. Each competency area is explained with practical relevance to managerial performance and organizational success. The chapter further emphasizes the growing importance of communication skills, collaborative leadership, innovation orientation, stakeholder management, resilience, and digital awareness in modern workplaces. In addition, it discusses competency assessment methods and development strategies that organizations can adopt to strengthen managerial agility. The findings indicate that organizations seeking competitive advantage increasingly value managers who can encourage teamwork, adapt to change, support innovation, and maintain customer-focused decision-making. The study concludes that integrating agile managerial competencies into recruitment, leadership development, employee evaluation, and organizational learning systems can improve adaptability and organizational sustainability. Developing agile leadership capabilities is therefore essential for organizations aiming to remain competitive in rapidly changing business environments.
