Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the prevalence of stress level and   effectiveness of stress management techniques among university students. A sample of over 250 university students of different programme participated in the study and completed a structured questionnaire. The questionnaire assessed the prevalence of stress among students and investigated the utilization and perceived effectiveness of various stress management techniques. The techniques included mindfulness exercises, deep breathing exercises, time management strategies, physical activity, and talking and spending time with friend and family and seeking professional help. The results indicated a high prevalence of stress among college students, with academic workload and exam pressure and personal relationship and future career being the most significant stressors. The most commonly utilized stress management techniques were physical activity and mindfulness exercises, conversation with family and friend Students reported moderate to high effectiveness for these techniques in reducing stress levels. However, seeking professional help was underutilized despite being perceived as highly effective by those who had utilized it. The findings suggest the need for increased awareness and access to professional support services in university for stress management among students. Additionally, targeted interventions focusing on effective time management and mindfulness techniques could be beneficial in enhancing stress management skills among this population.
