Abstract

The topic of gratitude has now become a central focus of scientific inquiry due to its beneficial effects on mental health and positive experiences at work. The aim of this research paper is to analyze the effects of gratitude on psychological well-being and workplace productivity, especially on employee well-being, motivation, job satisfaction and professional relationships. The research is mixed-method in nature, where quantitative data on employee well-being and workplace productivity is analysed alongside qualitative data collected through semi-structured interviews with employees and managers. The findings confirm that those who routinely express or feel thank you are happier emotionally, less stressed at work, more comfortable working with others, and more satisfied with their jobs. Gratitude also plays a role in fostering a positive organizational culture by fostering appreciation, cooperation, and supportive relationships between employees. Furthermore, workplace productivity is positively associated with the presence of gratitude since employees who feel valued and recognized are more likely to demonstrate their motivation, engagement, commitment, and effective job performance. While these are all good things, the results of gratitude exercises can differ based on the organizational culture, the support of leaders, the participation of employees, and the sincerity of the expression of gratitude. The paper also provides practical suggestions for organizations to implement to foster an attitude of gratitude such as recognizing and rewarding employees, implementing gratitude-related workplace activities, providing supportive leadership and opportunities for employees to recognize other employees. Overall, this study illustrates how gratitude can be a valuable resource for enhancing individual well-being and workplace outcomes, and underscores the importance of cultivating gratitude as a tool for fostering a healthier and more productive workplace.
