Abstract

This study investigates the socioeconomic status and infrastructure of Thittankulam village, a rural area located in Kovilpatti Block in the Tuticorin District of Tamil Nadu State, India. It aims to assess the villagers’ living conditions, access to basic amenities, and infrastructure status using a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative research. Data was gathered through surveys, interviews, and field observations, focusing on household income, education, occupation, health, and access to essentials like water, sanitation, and electricity. Interviews were conducted with key informants, including village leaders, community organizers, and local officials.

Findings reveal that Thittankulam faces significant challenges, including low income and inadequate access to clean water, sanitation facilities, and electricity. The village’s infrastructure is deficient, with poor roads, limited public transportation, and insufficient healthcare services.

Recommendations include local authorities developing a comprehensive plan to improve access to basic amenities, upgrading infrastructure, and fostering economic development opportunities. Addressing these issues is crucial for promoting sustainable development and enhancing the quality of life for Thittankulam’s residents.
