Abstract
This case study explains the role of Public Sector Banks (PSBs) in India in promoting the electric vehicle (EV) sector through green finance. The Indian government’s push towards sustainable transportation, via initiatives like the FAME scheme, has positioned PSBs as key financial supporters for EV manufacturers, infrastructure developers, and consumers. The study highlights PSBs’ contributions to financing EV projects, infrastructure development, and consumer loans, while also addressing challenges such as technological risks, policy uncertainty, and infrastructure bottlenecks. Future opportunities include expanding green finance portfolios, leveraging digital technology, and collaborating with international financial institutions.
