Abstract

Mergers and acquisitions (M&A) have become strategic tools for business expansion, competitive advantage, and market consolidation. However, the integration of information technology (IT) systems remains a critical challenge, influencing financial stability and operational efficiency. This paper explores the complexities of IT integration in M&A, focusing on financial and operational risks. Key financial risks include cost overruns, data inconsistencies, and compliance issues, while operational risks stem from system incompatibilities, cybersecurity threats, and disruptions in business continuity. A structured IT integration strategy, involving risk assessment, stakeholder collaboration, and phased implementation, is essential for successful post-merger consolidation. Additionally, best practices such as adopting scalable IT solutions, conducting thorough due diligence, and leveraging automation can mitigate integration risks. The study underscores the importance of aligning IT strategies with organizational goals to enhance synergy realization and long-term sustainability in M&A.
