Abstract

In today’s rapidly changing business environment, organizations are under constant pressure to improve efficiency, control costs, and make well-informed strategic decisions. Traditional cost accounting methods, while still useful, often struggle to address the complexities of modern production systems, digital transformation, and highly competitive markets. As a result, businesses are increasingly adopting innovative cost accounting practices that provide more accurate, timely, and meaningful financial information for managers. These innovations support organizations in identifying cost drivers, optimizing resource allocation, improving operational performance, and strengthening long-term competitiveness. This study explores the evolving role of cost accounting innovations in enhancing managerial decision-making. It examines widely adopted approaches such as activity-based costing, target costing, lean accounting, time-driven activity-based costing, and data-driven cost management systems. The study also discusses the practical challenges organizations face during implementation, including technological barriers, resistance to organizational change, data quality concerns, employee skill gaps, and integration with existing financial systems. Furthermore, it highlights how advancements in digital technologies, including artificial intelligence, big data analytics, enterprise resource planning systems, and cloud computing, are transforming cost management practices and enabling faster, evidence-based managerial decisions.
