Abstract

Market participants in the digital economy follow a different set of economic rules than those that regulate the physical economy. We start by considering the potential economic impacts of digitization. Then, we go on to topics like online auctions, advertising, consumer search, and product personalisation, as well as antitrust regulations, fiscal and monetary issues, market globalisation, and the cost of Internet infrastructure. Our goal is to demonstrate the role that technical progress plays in propelling economic shifts.
