Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the development and management of smart cities by enabling intelligent, data-driven, and sustainable urban systems. The integration of AI with technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, big data analytics, and advanced sensing systems allows cities to monitor infrastructure, optimize resources, and improve public services in real time. AI-powered solutions can support intelligent traffic management, energy optimization, waste management, public safety, environmental monitoring, predictive maintenance, and efficient urban planning. By analyzing large and diverse datasets, AI can identify patterns, predict urban challenges, and assist authorities in making faster and more informed decisions. Intelligent infrastructure also enables proactive maintenance of transportation networks, utilities, buildings, and other critical assets, reducing operational costs and improving reliability. However, the widespread adoption of AI in smart cities presents challenges related to data privacy, cybersecurity, interoperability, ethical decision-making, digital inequality, and the need for skilled professionals. This paper examines the role of Artificial Intelligence in developing intelligent infrastructure and improving urban management, highlighting its applications, benefits, challenges, and future potential. The study emphasizes that responsible and inclusive AI implementation can contribute significantly to creating efficient, resilient, sustainable, and citizen-centric smart cities.
