Abstract
Blended learning, as a growing mode of higher education has changed the way that education is delivered, blending traditional classroom instruction with online learning to provide more flexible and interactive learning experiences. The aim of this research paper is to discuss the effect of blended learning on students’ participation in higher education, academic interaction, satisfaction with learning, and technological accessibility in this regard. The design of the research is a mixed method, in which quantitative data obtained from the learning experiences of students and to be recorded as data related to student engagement is combined with qualitative data in the form of structured interviews with students and higher education instructors. Based on the results, it can be concluded that blended learning has a significant influence on students’ participation in the learning process, which is carried out flexibly, continuously by accessing learning materials and students can learn in a group. Students have the advantage of being able to access digital resources, take part in online discussions and use online learning programs to manage learning according to their personal needs. Some barriers like low level of digital literacy, poor technological infrastructures, low levels of face-to-face interaction, and poor motivational issues can have an impact on the effectiveness of blended learning. Furthermore, student engagement is a multi-dimensional phenomenon, with some students seeing the flexibility and accessibility of online learning as a positive, and others seeing direct interaction in the classroom and more instructor support as a positive. This study shows how blended learning can contribute to the quality, flexibility and inclusiveness of higher education, and uncovers both the opportunities and challenges that it brings. The results enrich the current research on technology-supported education with evidence-based knowledge on blended learning as a means to support students’ meaningful engagement in higher education and its sustainable implementation.
