Abstract

Humans and machines alike can now generate information at a rate faster than we can process it, much alone draw any useful conclusions. As a result, we are struggling to keep up. Artificial intelligence, the backbone of machine learning, will be the key tool for making tough decisions in the future. Technology made possible by AI and machine learning is now being used in many different fields, including but not limited to healthcare, transportation, robotics, research, education, military, surveillance, finance (regulatory and supervisory), agriculture, the entertainment industry, retail, and customer service. Artificial intelligence may be helpful in situations when there is too much information, too many moving parts, or too many unknowns for a single person to handle. Artificial intelligence systems generally make sound decisions when confined by their limitations. In this chapter, we’ll look at the specific ways in which AI facilitates decision making.
