Abstract:
“Navigating Data Localization: A Global Perspective,” the title of this research paper, examines how data localization is changing in relation to digitization and global interconnectedness. The paper explores the worldwide patterns, legal frameworks, and historical foundations of data localization, with particular attention to important actors including the US, Russia, India, and the EU. The introduction emphasises how data is transforming society in the twenty-first century and how careful data management is essential to addressing concerns about security, privacy, and international collaboration. The study looks into the many methods of localising data that are influenced by geopolitical, historical, and economic variables. Even while the European Union places a strong emphasis on data protection without requiring specific localization, nations such as China have strict laws governing data confinement inside their borders. Important turning points are highlighted in the historical foundations section, such as Russia’s early 2005 proposal and the EU’s historic General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in 2018. We also look at India’s 2018 and 2019 legislative initiatives, as well as China’s Cybersecurity Law, to highlight the complexity of global data governance.
