Abstract
Rural and women entrepreneurship has become a key part of inclusive development in India. This is especially true as rural households face economic changes, technological disruptions, and shifting market structures. Gujarat offers a clear example where cooperative organizations, women’s groups, and social enterprises create lively environments for rural women to engage in entrepreneurial activities. This chapter explores the social and economic factors, institutional supports, and personal experiences that shape rural women’s entrepreneurship. It includes case studies on SEWA, Amul, handicraft clusters in Kutch, and food-processing businesses in North Gujarat. By using recent research, reports, and community stories, it shows how social connections, collective efforts, and market access impact outcomes for rural women. The chapter ends by identifying new challenges, including automation, financial hurdles, and digital divides. It suggests that broad, ecosystem-based approaches are crucial for maintaining women-led rural businesses.
