Abstract
The theme of women’s empowerment holds significant importance in contemporary literature, as it encapsulates the struggles, achievements, and evolving roles of women in society. Empowerment manifests differently for women across various religions, cultures, castes, and countries, as their lives are influenced by societal customs, religious doctrines, economic circumstances, and cultural norms. Literature offers a range of experiences that prompt readers to reflect on concepts such as equality, identity, dignity and justice. This study examines women’s empowerment through a comparative literary perspective by studying selected literary works from different cultural backgrounds. It focuses on the influence of religion, caste, culture, migration, and identity on women’s lives. This study follows a qualitative research method based on close reading and textual analysis. Feminist criticism, postcolonial theory, and intersectionality provide a theoretical basis for analyzing the selected texts. The research indicates that although women are members of diverse communities, they frequently encounter analogous challenges. Patriarchy, social discrimination, and unequal opportunities continue to influence women’s lives. Education, self-confidence, economic independence, and social awareness help women achieve empowerment. Literature gives voice to women, questions injustice, and promotes equality and dignity. The study concludes that women’s empowerment is a continuous process that requires equal opportunities, respect for diversity and social justice. Comparative literary studies facilitate an understanding of the diversity and common experiences of women globally.
